Santa Bob Wiggs, Instructor

Bob Wiggs grew up in Memphis, Tennessee where his dad was a huge Christmas tinkerer. White flocked trees with a high-tech color changing wheel light that no one was ever allowed to touch. But that may be where his love for the Holidays started. In the 70’s, they moved to Atlanta where Bob and his dad would cut their own greenery and rope garland was found everywhere…inside and outside the home. 

Bob learned to sail and grew that into another passion. Not long after, he started racing sail boats and then found his new love. Teaching. For 10 years, Bob taught sailing fundamentals through a local college and taught racing tactics in a local club eventually becoming the Commodore of the club.

Then marriage and children changed things from sailing to coaching baseball and entering scouts. Years later, with 3 Eagle Scout sons, Bob began teaching other leaders how to keep scouting interesting and beneficial to many. As his sons grew older, they entered the world of shooting sports…so of course, Bob took courses to become a certified shooting instructor. I see a pattern forming.

Somewhere in all those years, a volunteer Santa for NCR backed out on his duties and Bob’s wife jumped right in and said “Hey, I’ll get Bob to do it.” Horrible suit…burlap lining? So, for the next year he was promised a new suit and his mother-in-law hand made the first suit.

For 20+ years Bob has been Santa for schools and friends but took the big leap in 2017 and joined the Northern Lights Santa Academy. Bob has attended several NLSA sessions as well as attending other Santa gatherings across the country. He is a member of IBRBS, Metro Santas, and a board member of Peachtree Santas.
