Matt Flanagan - B&W

Matt Flanagan, Guest Instructor

Matt Flanagan has been doing leatherwork since he was a Cub Scout 30 years ago. He has been making fine leather products for the Santa community for the last 7 years. From belts to bell straps, Matt custom crafts everything by hand. Some of his more memorable pieces have been movie replicas of various garments.

Matt is the father of two amazing children, Colin and Maura. He is incredibly proud of their accomplishments such as being an Eagle Scout, Black Belt in Taekwondo and honor roll students.

As a svelte Santa Claus and cosplayer, Matt volunteers in costume for Scouts BSA, children’s hospitals, and other civic organizations. He can frequently be seen in full Ghostbuster uniform and enjoys cosplaying a variety of characters.

Matt served in the US Air Force as a Combat Arms Instructor and in Law Enforcement for the past 17 years. He held several positions that include firearms instructor, detective, and SWAT operator.

He comes to the NLSA teaching Leather 101. This class will cover everything from the history of Santa and leather to care and maintenance of leather products. Students will also learn how leather pieces are produced, and how to select and inspect their leather gear to compliment their Santa aesthetic.
